Announcing VizThink Berlin Facilitator – Martin Eppler
We’ve been working hard to find the best of the best in our industry for our upcoming conference in Berlin, and we’ll be announcing a them over the next few weeks. For those of you who attended San Francisco or may be considering attending San Jose, each conference will be a completely unique conference with all new sessions.So, those who haven’t been to a VizThink event are probably wondering “What is a facilitator?” Well, it’s both a concept and a practice. We had all been to so many conferences where speakers and lecturers put us to sleep. That approach seems counter to VizThink’s entire mission. So, we’re trying to change the way conferences work. Rather than sitting in one way communication, we wanted to have people who fostered dialogue, encouraged debate, and provided opportunities for attendees to personally try the techniques. So, the title “facilitator” for us was a conscious choice. Our goal is to make these the most hands on and interactive sessions you’ve been to.
So, on to our first announcement:
Martin Eppler to Facilitate at VizThink Berlin
Martin is a chaired professor of information and communication management at the University of Lugano (USI) in Switzerland, where he is conducting research on knowledge management, knowledge visualization, and knowledge communication. He has been an advisor to organizations such as the United Nations, UBS, Philips, the Swiss Military, Ernst & Young, KPMG, Swiss Re, Daimler and others.
We’re really excited to have Martin as part of VizThink Berlin. His background in both research and practical application will bring unique insights for the community. In particular, we look forward to him sharing more about his work using interactive, templated visuals to facilitate group discussion and decision making.
He has published more than 80 academic papers and eight books, mostly on knowledge communication, management, and visualization including his latest publication, Ways of Knowing (Wissenswege, Huber, 2008). In addition, he is the inventor of the knowledge visualization software suite, Let’s Focus and of the periodic table of visualization methods at visual-literacy.org.
