Community Wrap-up – July 2008

August already? Looking back at the past month though I can understand why it went past in a blur – let me take a minute to fill you in on all the juicy details:

Community Network Launched

We’ve talked about the community a few times over the past month so I won’t go into huge depth – just the highlights.

We started off the month by launching our community network to everyone who attended the conference back in January. Throughout the month we’ve been inviting additional people in (workshop & webinar attendees, mailing list, etc.) and today we have a little over 400 people in and using the site.

If you got your invite and haven’t signed in yet what are you waiting for? Come join the conversation (some good stuff is already spilling out in the forums)! If you didn’t get an invite, or just want one, drop an email to community at vizthink.com and I’ll hook you up. For more about the community network check out Tom’s post from last week here.

Events, Events, Events

July was also a busy month in the local communities – London (July 10th), Austin (July 23rd) & Toronto (July 24th) all had get-togethers this month and all were wildly successful.

London & Toronto both benefited from having Dave Gray in town coinciding with their events – photos & video from both can be seen below:

VizThink Austin 3

VizThink Austin had Daniel Salzman, from Enspire Learning, in to facilitate and present “The Visual Metaphor.”

And More…

As if that wasn’t enough we also had a highly attended and popular webinar with Jamie Nast & Chuck Frey on Idea Mapping (watch it here) on the 22nd, a SOLD OUT workshop with Dave Gray in Toronto on the 25th and a small gathering in Ann Arbor, MI on the tail end of a VizThink team meeting in mid-July.

As part of that meeting Tom, Chris and I had a “walking meeting” that involved checking out the absolutely massive Ann Arbor Art Fair while trying to talk business. Sadly I put the camera down during the meetup so I didn’t get any pictures but we got some of the art fair itself – Ann Arbor is a really beautiful city and we saw plenty of great art as we wandered around for 6 HOURS in an attempt to see it all.

Upcoming Conferences

Tom has been steadily announcing facilitators for our upcoming conference in Berlin, VizThink Europe (Oct 12-14) in Berlin, Germany. There’s loads more announcements to come and it’s shaping up to be a great conference. Check out the Berlin page at http://www.vizthink.com/vizthinkeurope08 and watch the blog for more announcements in the coming weeks.

We’ve also got a blogger referral program for Berlin – if you’re interested in helping us get the word out and get your readers a discount and yourself access to the conference for as low as “free” – drop us an email at community at vizthink.com and we’ll fill you in.

This month we also opened up registration for VizThink 2009 in San Jose – check out http://vizthink.com/sanjose2009 for all the details and take advantage of our early registration discount!

Phew…

That’s about it – I don’t know if we could have packed more in this month if we tried!

Look forward to seeing you around the community network or at one of our upcoming conferences/events…

- Ryan
