[Podcast] MultiTouch Visualization Lab with Remo Burkhard
When debating whether techonology assisted visual thinking is a good thing, we often forget that the definition of technology is dependent on context. At one point in time, the chisel, #2 pencil, chalkboard, whiteboard marker, and sticky note have all been “high-tech”. It’s never that one technology supplants the previous, but that we work to find the best way to use each technology for it’s best benefit. Often it takes years before we settle in to best practices. During that time, many experiments and lots of research occur. That’s where we are today with touch screens and particularly multitouch technology such as the Microsoft Surface or Apple iPhone.
When does multitouch work best? How can touch screen technologies improve the visual thinking process? What new things can we do now that we have this technology? How do we integrate the previous work in the field of visual thinking with the new technologies? These are just a few of the questions being worked on by Remo Burkhard’s team at the ETH Value Lab in Switzerland. In our 22nd podcast, Remo talks about his paper-based visualization work with Visual Approaches for Solving Problems (http://www.vasp.ch) and the upcoming opening of the ETH Value Lab. He also talks about his breakout session at VizThink Europe. We’re happy to have him on board for the conference and are looking forward to some great discussions. Take a look at our 24 minute and 37 second podcast:
