Daniel Weil: Drawing the Process

Like many designers, Pentagram’s Daniel Weil uses sketching to visualize, generate and refine his ideas. Weil has, by his estimation, more than 375 sketchbooks, going all the way back to 1978. In a new short film directed by Nicolas Heller, …

Online Event! Design & Politics: A Conversation with Scott Thomas

Here at VizThink, we were inspired by the role that visual design and expression played in the last presidential election campaign in the United States. Not only was design a very key component of the Obama strategy, but it was …

Visual Frameworks: A Work In Progress

Much the same way people say there’s only 7 unique plots in story telling the same can also be said about visual representations. This isn’t to say there isn’t room for creativity or design but the reality is, when you …

[Rewind] Luke Wroblewski on Web Form Design

This week we’re looking back at an early VizThink podcast with Luke Wroblewski, Chief Design Architect at Yahoo! – this podcast specifically took a look at Luke’s (then) new book “Web Form Design”.

Between his current work at Yahoo! and past experience at eBay there’s a good chance you’ve all interacted with interfaces that Luke has designed, or had influence over at one point or another. In Web Form Design, Luke Wroblewski shares his insights from his considerable experience at Yahoo! and eBay, and combines it with his own original research and the thoughts and ideas of other leading designers in the field.

Information and Architecture

We originally linked to these videos a few weeks ago in VizLinks, largely because we couldn’t find them in an embeddable format. Thankfully, I stumbled across them on Vimeo the other day. These two videos, “Information” and “Architecture” were created by Maya Design, a design consultancy and technology research organization. Both are great videos, on a visual level and in terms of content. The first video, “Information” takes a look at what information really is. The second video, “Architecture”, steps back to take a look at purest form of the word “architecture”

Designing for Visual Efficiency: An Ignite Talk

Last November Ryan Coleman, VizThink’s Community Evangelist, had the opportunity to speak at #IgniteTO, Toronto’s local gathering under the Ignite umbrella. This was the second ignite, following a highly successful, and entertaining evening back in September.

The talk looks at how we see and how knowing this can help us become better designers or visual communicators.
